EXTERNAL FIELDS/EFFECTS
The planetary geomagnetic field today saw quiet conditions with AP 9. High latitudes saw disturbed conditions with AP 13. Medium latitudes saw quiet conditions with AP 9.
This follows the strongest geomagnetic storm (which occurred April 19) since global AP reached 64 on March 24, 2024. It is likely this will enhance global seismicity in the next five days but not immediately until ring currents form in the ionosphere.
Unsettled conditions in the geomagnetic field are expected April with active periods April 23 and 25. Solar activity is expected to be at moderate levels April 22-24 with a moderate chance (75%) of an M-class flare and 20% chance of an X-class flare. A proton storm is expected with 20% probability in this time period.
The maximum disturbance in the geomagnetic field today occurred with KP 4 at 07:00 UT on April 22, 2024.
The Wolf Sunspot number today was 283. Solar radio Flux 10.7 was 227 on April 22, 2024.
A strong GRB was recorded by SWIFT on April 15, 2024 at 03:10:49 UT (#240215B). An initial UVOT was not given to this GRB.
A strong GRB was recorded by SWIFT on April 18, 2024 at 20:24:08 UT (#240218A). An initial UVOT was given to this GRB as V>19.3.
